Society of Saint Andrew Inc.
The Society of St. Andrew brings people together to harvest and share healthy food, reduce food waste, and build caring communities by offering nourishment to hungry neighbors.
Developing community-based grassroots gleaning networks, SoSA leverages volunteer labor to pick, dig, or gather fresh produce remaining in fields after commercial harvest, providing a “no regrets” solution benefiting the environment by reducing food waste; farmers through tax benefits; volunteers through opportunities to make a difference in their community; feeding agencies through receiving zero-cost healthy produce for their clients; and low-income, asset limited persons with nourishing food to eat. SoSA has four decades’ experience, with a proven track record across multiple states, and already recovers and distributes 20-30 million pounds of food each year, at a cost of 10-12¢ per pound.
